Experimental Travel: Trip Poker

Tired of taking your vacation itinerary from a book? Look to Lonely Planet to brighten up your summer travels. Their new book, The Lonely Planet Guide to Experimental Travel , will have you and your friends taking bets on where to go next. Instructions range from driving to a specific grid reference on a map, to wearing a horse's head around town!

Rize – the movie

David LaChapelle's documentary on the urban dance known as “krumping” is an enlightening and positive story that shows how young people in Watts, Compton, and Englewood rose from the ashes of riots and developed a sense of community through their own style of dance. The opening title displays the disclaimer, “The footage in this film has not been sped up in any way.” You'll understand why after you see the first dance sequence.

Siren Festival

Held on Brooklyn's infamous Coney Island (home of the annual Nathan's hot-dog eating contest!), the fifth Siren Music Festival took place on Saturday, July 16 th . Independently produced by The Village Voice , the concert's lineup included Spoon, Saul Williams, and Mates of State. The festival also marked the last New York performance for odd rockers Q and Not U, who announced they'll be breaking up.

White Stripes Tour with The Shins

Newly married Jack White joins his “sister” Meg on the road for a North American tour. The tour kicks off July 29th in San Diego, and venue highlights include The Gorge Amphitheatre, Red Rocks, and a five-night run at the Greek in Los Angeles. Arrive early for opener Brendan Bensen, a pop-song writer that eludes the “guy and his guitar” stereotype.

F'N NYC Clothing

Black Sabbath and Mudvayne won't be the only ones at Ozzfest this year. Joining the tour is F'N NYC (Fuckin' NYC), a new rockstar clothing line that will give out free tees and other goodies at the shows. Their current wardrobe is basic (think American Apparel with an F'N NYC logo), but this isn't some poser line. The two ladies who created the company have a sincere goal: to pay homage to the metal music they grew up with and love.

Live 8 Downloads

International concert Live 8 woke up the public to the crisis in Africa, urging them to sign a petition to increase aid, cancel debt, and make fair trade with Africa. Now, you can search the Internet to find awesome downloads. Our personal favorite is the London opener, which featured Paul McCartney and U2 performing “Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.”
